Artistic Storytelling Residency and Workshop with Robert Chambers

Flagstaff, Arizona artist Robert Chambers will join guests at Elkhorn Ranch for a one week artistic storytelling Residency and Workshop . He will focus on sketching the moments of daily ranch life and the sublime and rugged landscapes of the Sonoran desert. Using watercolor, colored pencils, and pen and ink, he will share his process for composing and painting sketches that capture the places and people in our lives and travels. His daily workshop demonstrations will share tricks and techniques for observational on-site sketching.

Sketching invites us to slow down and to observe

In this digital world, our screens can often hinder our ability to be present. Sketching invites us to slow down and to observe deeply the content of our world and the contours of our internal landscapes. Often a thoughtful sketch can preserve our precious memories better than a hundred photos.

Guests may certainly bring their own art supplies or purchase a $100 kit at the ranch that includes the exact tools needed to follow along with demonstrations and casual sketching throughout the week.

Robert is an internationally recognized artist and illustrator specializing in landscape architectural illustration and urban sketching.

He teaches art and illustration in Flagstaff, AZ, and leads urban sketching workshops that help beginner and intermediate sketchers develop the tools and confidence to sketch anywhere in the world.

He administers the Flagstaff chapter of urbansketchers.org, an international nonprofit organization that oversees a global community of sketchers dedicated to the practice of on-location drawing.

Urban sketchers share their love for the places they live and travel—one drawing at a time.
