Activities expand outdoors to sketch or when things get messy!

She leads afternoon art activities including bookmaking, drawing, block printing, and collage.

Kate will be working on expanding her ongoing research in regards to the Paper Genome Project – which involves exploration of papermaking fibers in regards to specific places.

In this case, Kate will be researching the capacity for papermaking with different invasive species found on the ranch as well as exploring the surrounding agricultural landscape for papermaking possibilities.

Artist Biography

Kate Aitchison is an artist whose work is centered around ideas of landscape and the human interventions in the natural landscape, especially in regards to the manipulation of water, and ecologies. Currently working with paper she makes herself from invasive plant species and recycled materials collected from site specific areas, she utilizes the medium of printmaking to work through iterations of landscapes changed by human actions.

Aitchison graduated from Colorado College in 2010 with a BA in Studio Art and earned her MFA in Printmaking from the Rhode Island School of Design in 2016. She is currently a visiting professor of art at Colorado College. In addition to teaching, Aitchison has shown work nationally including exhibitions at Brown University in Providence, RI, Coastal Carolina University in Conway, SC, and Anderson Ranch Arts Center in Snowmass, CO. She also teaches workshops throughout the country including the Telluride Ah Ha School for the Arts, Prescott College, AS220 Providence, and more.
